Deputy PM Kabir Meets Potzel, Calls for Intl Recognition

Abdul Kabir, Deputy Prime Minister for Political Affairs, met with Markus Potzel, the deputy head of UNAMA, the Arg said on Twitter.

Kabir said the Islamic Emirate does not oppose girls' education and he hoped that the international community will take considerable steps "for the Islamic Emirate's recognition."

The Arg said that Potzel thanked the Islamic Emirate for ensuring security of UN agencies in the country.

“This is the important issue, that the people of Afghanistan and the Islamic Emirate should be recognized and the rights of the people of Afghanistan should be given to them,” said Islamic Emirate’s Spokesman, Zabiullah Mujahid.

Potzel also discussed the renewal of the mandate of UNAMA with Kabir and pledged the agency’s assistance to Afghanistan.

“The renewal of UNAMA's mandate in continuation of diplomatic relations of Afghanistan with the international organizations  is a positive step and it can benefit the situation in Afghanistan from various aspects,” said Ghulam Hassan Faiq, an economist.

“Whenever security is good in Afghanistan and all Afghans are included in political power, countries will attempt to have diplomatic relations with Afghanistan,” said Nisar Ahmad Shirzai, military veteran.

UNAMA tweeted that Potzel met with an Iran ambassador in Kabul, and “encouraged enhanced and unified regional cooperation to contribute to a stable and peaceful Afghanistan.”
